What people are saying.

I finished the book last night...it was wonderful!  The stories of the men and women were truly inspirational. Through your words, you can tell that teaching people with needs is your true calling (although this able-bodied person appreciates you teaching us too). You have inspired me to help whenever I can... may it be down here or up in NY. You should be very proud of yourself...I am!
Linda N. NY

I just finished reading your great book for the second time this week. I confess to a life-long love affair with golf, but never more than reading your pages about how golf is touching lives. I know you see golf as your profession. I see it as your ministry. Frosty M. Iowa

I give the book 14 clubs up (my version of 2 thumbs up). Well written, short and to the point, but most of all, INSPIRATIONAL! Thank you for introducing us to such a courageous group of individuals, and also for the glimpse into your life as a teaching pro.  Vicky R.

Just a great book and does a tremendous service to the millions who need this therapy. A super tribute to all the work you have done. Thanks for making me part of this accomplishment. I have learned a lot.

Hi Judy
I decided to take your book to my Open Houses today. It was a bit slow I started to read your book. I ended up running and getting tissues as I read this heart warming book. You have done a terrific job in telling the stories of these people. What a sight I was with red eyes, greeting the few that showed up at my Opens. Every story is so touching...and since I don't golf...it was not about the game, but the effect it played on these people that needed something and someone like you in their life. I would put this book in the category of "Life Moving Books To Read".
It is a great feeling and very rewarding when you can effect someone's life the way you have. Thank you for writing this book.

Love & Hugs

Yesterday was special.  Got my autographed copy of Broken Tees and Mended Hearts.  I couldn't put it down.  You've really done a great book. and with the right marketing it should be a success; enough of a success to pay you for your hard work.  I've never seen anything like it.  No one has. Congratulations on the book.  It's going to help so many.  It's already helped me. Louis K. Iowa

I read your book cover to cover on my flight(s) home today.
I couldn't put it down!
You and your students define inspiration!
Thank you for sharing your experiences!
I already passed it along to my brother.
Keep up the amazing work! John L. VA

Wow - so enjoying the book. It's so you - touching and I see your uplifting humor, so real. So far my favorite part is the story on the blind golfer and your comments. Will finish tomorrow as I don't want to rush, so I can take it all in - bravo! Susie M., N.Y.

Judy, your book is wonderful. I like the way you have organized it: analogous to a round of golf. The stories are awe-inspiring, and you deserve a medal for the good work you have done. I am proud to know you, and pleased that you have shared your stories with me and others. Mary K., Illinois

I received your books yesterday. So far, I have reviewed the pictures and read the forwards, along with selected vignettes. I am excited about reading the entire book over the weekend. You have written a marvelous book in testament to your lifelong passion in helping others. I pray that many people will purchase, read, and reflect upon their own need to continually reach out to help others. Humankind needs to witness moral directive more than ever these days. Ed K., Florida

The game, the experience of golf is a soulful one. In the adventures of this book Judy bares her soul for golf and her students, new and old. Honest stories of her own heartfelt need to learn how to deal with special needs people convey her personal and professional integrity.

Further, the stories of her skills applied to desires of her students, albeit reluctant, skeptical and otherwise, tell of the triumphs of both. Judy has composed prose about golf never before written. She delves deep into the essences of golf and its extraordinary effects on its players.

Carol Mann, LPGA and World Golf Hall of Fame Member

"No matter who plays the game of golf, it is always a challenge. Like all challenges it is attacked and mastered by individuals who developed their own skills and strategies. What level the students begin, or achieve, is personal. When the students are coached by the likes of Judy, their skill and enjoyment levels are increased.  This collection of inspiring stories features students who started with a new adventure and became golfers!  Judy Alvarez is able to relate to the life situation of each student and provide guidance and support unique to each individual along with golf instruction.

Why does anyone want to play golf? The game can be exceedingly difficult on your best days!  The game of golf is often about adjusting one's character. These stories tell of the character of students and the adjustment that golf brought to their lives. Those adjustments brought joy into the lives of golfers. Thanks, Judy."

Rick Martino, PGA Master Professional, Golf Magazine Top 100 Teacher

"There are some individuals who prefer that their careers follow the easiest road traveled. Judy Alvarez took a different, more difficult journey to begin her golf teaching career. She learned from those who had yet to fully grasp the difficulties of the game because they first were grappling with their own serious life issues before stepping up to take a golf lesson.  Judy grew as much as her students, and through her book, she connects us and warms our heart. Golf has saved lives and enriched so many wounded souls.  As Judy relays to us her experiences with her special students, it is most evident that she has the passion to help those with disabilities and encourages other professionals and lay people alike, to do the same."

Patti Benson, Past National President, LPGA Teaching & Club Professionals; 2010 LPGA T&CP Hall of Fame Member

“Judy’s book “Broken Tees and Mended Hearts” is like her teaching style, professional, straightforward, humorous and educational. We at Disabled Sports USA have seen her training and teaching benefit and inspire so many of the wounded warriors we serve in our golf program. Her book will do the same for those who read it.”

Kirk M. Bauer,  Executive Director
U.S. Army (Retired)
Disabled Sports USA, Inc.

“The collection of stories in Broken Tees and Mended Hearts present golf as something far more than a sport, but as a vehicle that can take anyone of any ability to a level of empowerment and achievement they never thought possible or imagined. That sentiment was certainly evident in the stories that were told. Golf can be a “hope catalyst”, which is so desperately needed for many of those depicted in the book. I commend you for your commitment to golf and to those you serve. It is an honor to be a part of your endeavor. May God bless you in your mission.”
